NAS Glenview (NASG) was a naval air station in Glenview, Illinois, that served the United States and its allies from World War II until the station’s closure in 1995. Glenview was a cradle of civilian aviation, and Naval Air Station Glenview (NASG) was critical to the defense of the United States and its allies from WWII until the station’s closure in 1995.
Among the many achievements of NASG are its exceptional ingenuity and vision, its ability to push boundaries and achieve extraordinary goals, and its role in creating national and international history. In an era when the country is facing an increasing demand for future scientists and engineers, as well as future pilots and innovators, and as our young look ahead to a fast developing technological future, the NASG’s slogan, “training, technology, and readiness,” has never been more appropriate.
NASG History
During the twentieth century, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASG) played an important role in both the development of aviation and the development of the nation. By conserving the legacy of NASG, we are preserving an important chapter in the history of U.S. aviation and providing a chance for future generations to be inspired by the great feats and innovative problem solutions that are the seeds of creativity and development.
During the period from 1937 to 1995, the National Advisory Security Group’s personnel offered steadfast protection for our country and, on a local level, participated in a long-standing tradition of public service.
The Foundation
Following the closure of NASG in 1995, the Glenview Hangar One Foundation (GHOF) was established by concerned citizens to commemorate and preserve Glenview aviation history. GHOF has been active in the preservation of NASG’s historically and architecturally significant Hangar One Tower, which is located on the grounds of the airport. The Navy Park and Gallery Park on the old site of NASG, which is currently being rebuilt into a multi-use area called The Glen, were also made possible as a result of the GHOF’s campaigning efforts.
